Our Place Receives $5K Grant from New Hampshire Charitable Foundation

In conjunction with NH Gives, Our Place received a $5000 grant from the Matthew Sherman Memorial Fund which is an advised fund from New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. We are thrilled with this generous donation because it will allow us to strengthen the foundation of our organization. The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation is New Hampshire’s statewide community foundation, founded in 1962 by and for the people of New Hampshire. The Foundation manages a growing collection of nearly 2,000 funds created by generous individuals, families and businesses, and awards nearly $40 million in grants and more than $6 million in scholarships every year. The Foundation works with generous and visionary citizens to maximize the power of their giving, supports great work happening in our communities and leads and collaborates on high-impact initiatives. Visions Open House

On September 7th a group of parents from the seacoast went to Enfield, New Hampshire to attend an open house at Visions, a supportive housing residence for 10 adults with developmental disabilities. Visions is a beautiful old inn that has a large kitchen and dining area, a large living room and a spacious sun porch. Along with the main inn building there is another three-bedroom house across the driveway, and four apartment units a short walk from that.

The residents of Visions proudly showed off their apartments and gave tours of the main house. They told about their jobs in the community and how much they love coming home to their “family” at Visions. Sylvia Dow, the founder and CEO of Visions thanked the supporting members of the community who attended the open house and talked about the many improvements that have been made to the property.

The seacoast parents who attended the open house were very impressed with Visions and this model of supportive housing. Seeing this success story for adults with developmental disabilities helped to confirm that this model should be replicated in the seacoast area. It was after this visit that the plans for Our Place, Inc. started to take form.
